Campaign communications

Make the case. Then be ready to defend it.

Every speech, interview, debate and unexpected question tells voters something about a candidate.

Build a message candidates can carry.

Our work begins with why someone is running. We connect that answer to each candidate’s story, priorities and case to voters. We develop campaign language, biographies, announcement speeches, issue messages and answers to expected questions.

Put messages under pressure.

Candidates prepare for media interviews, editorial board meetings, town halls, endorsement interviews and debates under realistic conditions. Recorded mock interviews and debates show candidates what voters will see and hear.

James brings direct experience covering politics and public policy and working as a political speechwriter and communications strategist. As races develop, The Modern Fire provides ongoing interview briefings, speechwriting, message review, debate preparation, surrogate preparation and campaign crisis communications.

What we do, and what we don’t

We focus on candidate communications and preparation. We don’t provide polling, fundraising, voter targeting, field organizing or media buying. We work selectively across political affiliations, don’t work for opposing candidates in the same race and won’t develop claims we know to be false.
